This has to be one of my favourite phrases, but only when it applies to time intentionally spent away from computers and phones and all things screen. That’s how I spent part of this past week, and it was as rejuvenating as expected. There was fresh snow that sparkled, lichens in surprising colours, the footprints of pine martins, cold toes and a fire to warm them beside, and stars … so many stars.
I try to unplug for an overnighter or two each month, and every time I’m surprised how much effort it takes to get out. It’s always worth it.
I spent a good deal of my unplugged time thinking about the new body of work I’m just starting to make for an exhibition at the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre. That’s what March is for, and I can’t wait to settle into the studio.
