Portrait series of construction workers and contractors hired to build the Kinnear Centre in Banff.
I photographed this series while on a 6 month work-study program at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. At the time, I was less interested in artspeak and more comfortable interacting with the workers that I was seeing daily on campus, building up the Kinnear Centre and taking coffee breaks with the rest of us. Inspired by the Richard Avedon series In the American West, I set up a makeshift outdoor studio on fair weather days and cajoled these [generally hesitant] workers into letting me document them.
The images were printed in house at the Banff Centre's photo department and showed at The Other Gallery in June 2009.
